Jean was born in Ludington on November 21, 1927, to the late Frank and Anna Hackett. She married Wilbur R. Bentz on August 30, 1947. They spent 63 years together before his passing on November 3, 2010. Jean was also preceded in death by her son, Chris Michael Bentz; sisters, Donna Wilson, Dolores Bialachowski; brothers, Ron Hackett and Dan Hackett. Jean is survived by her son, Roger (Susan) Bentz; daughter, Susan Bentz; sisters, Cindy (Alan) Schneider, Carol (Don) Yeck, Sherry Lynn, Phyllis Harliss, Janet Flint, Evelyn (Clifford) Stuart; brother Gary Hackett; 8 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren. Upon Jean’s request there will be no service or visitation. The Oak Grove Funeral Home and Cremation Center has been selected to assist with arrangements. He was born on January 19, 1928 in Grand Rapids, Michigan the son of the late Leo & Anna (Baar) Kersjes. He was a graduate of Grand Rapids Creston High School and attended Michigan State University. He married Barbara Sutton on September 14, 1951 at Saint Alphonse Catholic Church in Grand Rapids. He was employed as a bowling alley mechanic, and during summer month re-finished bowling alley’s. Thomas was a communicant of Saint Simon Catholic Church in Ludington. He enjoyed golfing and woodworking. Survivors include his wife; Barbara Kersjes of Ludington, seven children; Jerome (Pam) Kersjes of Spencerport, NY, Daniel Kersjes of Rockford, MI, Jane Kersjes of Plymouth, MI, Julie (Michael) Haselhuhn of Saginaw, Jack (Melinda) Kersjes of Cincinnati, OH, Glen Kersjes of Cedar Springs, Roger (Amy) Kersjes of Walker, MI, ten grandchildren, & two sisters; Teresa Brown and Rosemary (Jim) Raap. He was also preceded in death by three sisters; Irene Pawlowski, Dorthy VanderLinde, & Sister Frances Kersjes, and one brother; Edward Kersjes. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Friday, January 30, 2015 at 11:00 at Saint Simon Catholic Church with Father Wayne Wheeler celebrant. Burial will be in Pere Marquette Cemetery. He was born on December 8, 1950 in Manistee, the son of the late Richard “Shorty” & Carol (Severson) Mucha. He was a 1969 graduate of Manistee High School and later received his Associates Degree from West Shore Community College. Dave married Suzanne M. Zemlicka on July 5, 1973 in Manistee. He was employed by A.D. Joslin Company in Manistee for 25 years and as a phlebotomist and currier at West Shore Medical Center. He also had been employed by Clark Equipment Company. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Manistee where he served as an Elder for 13 years. He also attended River of Life Ministries. He also was a member of the Spirit of the Woods Music Association. Dave enjoyed painting and drawing, playing tennis, traveling, and music/concerts. David is survived by his wife, Sue Mucha; son, Jason (Aimee) Mucha; grandchildren, Lillianna & Nathaniel Mucha; all of Manistee. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Gloria S. Janet enjoyed all outdoor activities; camping, hunting, & fishing, avid target bow shooting, and had a love of all animals, especially horses. She married Robert Lester Johnson on October 31, 1964 in Ludington. Bev was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Ludington. She loved her grand kids. She had been employed as a caregiver in adult foster homes. Survivors include her husband; Robert L. Johnson of Ludington, three children; Nancy Bates of Ludington, Steven (Rebecca) Johnson of Interlochen, and Lori (Matt) Stancill of Las Vegas, NV, five grandchildren; Tim, Kyle, Morgan, Caitlyn, & McKenzie, one sister; Eileen Reamer of Kingsley, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was born on March 10, 1968 to Virginia (Nickerson) Rose and the late William F. Lemere Jr in Ludington. Bill married his soulmate Debra A. Pomorski in a marriage brought together by God. Bill was an avid hunter who enjoyed nothing more than spending time outdoors with his family. He loved spending time at “The Shack” that was in the family for over 100 years. Bill was a simple man who preferred spending time and sharing moments with the people he loved over collecting things. Bill had a very large heart and would never turn down anyone in need of help. He was a devoted mechanic who taught himself to fix just about anything and sometimes he would just take things apart to put them back together. Bill loved to pass on all of his knowledge to the kids who filled his life. Bill was a loving family man and a devoted grandfather. He would take his grandchildren and other children in his family to do what they wanted to do just to make them happy. Bill is survived by his wife, Debra A. Georgia Helen was born on April 22, 1922 daughter of the late John and Fannie (Ames) Stark in Ludington, where she grew up and attended school, graduating from Ludington High School in 1940. She was married November 10, 1941 to Franklin L. Parsons and he preceded her in death on June 11, 1978. She lived in Summit Township until moving into Ludington in 1985 and into Ludington Woods in 2009. Her hobbies were her flowers and gardens. Georgia will be remembered for the raspberries she grew and sold for many years. Georgia will be lovingly remembered by her sons, David (Janice) Parsons of Mt. Pleasant, Darrel (Rhea) Parsons of Milton, FL; daughter, Sylvia (Richard) Warner of Ludington; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; two brothers, James Stark and Ronald Stark of Ludington and numerous nieces and nephews. He was born on July 16, 1960 in Sault Ste. Marie, MI the son of the late Edward Joseph and Olive (Lewis) Guillard. Roger attended Sault Ste. Marie High School and graduated with the class of 1978. He then went on to attend the University of California Santa Cruz, where is graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Linguistics. Roger was affluent in 4 different languages, English, French, Spanish and Cato lone. Family and friends were Roger’s passion and joy. He also loved traveling and made life-long friends wherever he visited. Roger always made each and every one of us feel special and loved. “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Maya Angelou. Roger was retired from Baycrest Condo in San Francisco, CA. Clik here to view.Helen Lou (Hoch) Albrecht, age 86 of Ludington passed away unexpectedly on February 13, 2015. Helen was born on May 13, 1928 daughter of the late Emil and Veronica (Negele) Hoch. Helen attended Ludington Schools graduating in 1946. She also attended Hackley Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1949 with a RN. She was married on February 20, 1960 to Donald L. Albrecht Sr. in Ludington. Helen started her nursing career at Hackley Hospital in Muskegon in the iron lung unit during the polio epidemic. When she returned to Ludington, she worked as a labor and delivery nurse at Ludington Memorial Hospital for 40 years retiring in 1994. Helen served as one of the site nurses during construction of the Ludington Pump Storage project. She remained active in the American Red Cross for many years after her retirement. She was a long-standing member of St. Simon’s Catholic Church in Ludington. She enjoyed crafts, sewing, playing bingo, going to yard sales, spending time on the beach and going camping with her family. Helen and Don built, owned, and operated Albrecht’s Marina on the Buttersville Peninsula for many years where they hosted many parties and developed life-long friendships. She was an active member of the Ludington Emblem Club and served as President numerous times. One of Helen’s many interests was architecture and design. She was able to use this interest in a practical way when she designed, drafted plans, and helped build three of her homes and designed the delivery room at Ludington Memorial Hospital. Helen is survived by her husband, Donald L. Albrecht, Sr. of Ludington; children, Clifford (Russelle) Albrecht of Ludinton, Raymond (Debbie) Albrecht of Mt. Pleasant, Michael (Mary) Albrecht of Jenison, Diane (Craig) Cameron of Custer and Donald (Mary) Albrecht Jr. of Ludington; 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; 4 sister-in-laws; 1 brother-in-law, several nieces and nephews and many other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband Raymond McGrane who preceded her in death in 1952; sister, Alice VanLoon; and brother, Emil Hoch. He was born on October 24, 1929 in Ludington, son of the late Irving and Edith (Zachow) Yeck. He attended and graduated from Ludington High School. Jack enlisted in the United States Army on March 23, 1951 serving during the Korean War until he was honorably discharged on March 22, 1953. Jack married Carol Jean Rasmussen on October 3, 1951 in Ludington at St. John’s Lutheran Church. She preceded him in death on December 3, 2009. Jack was also a devoted and compassionate caregiver for his wife Carol who battled cancer for 10 years. He worked as a millwright at Dow Chemical in Ludington for 30 plus years. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mason County Softball Hall of Fame and the Mason County Sports Hall of Fame. Jack was an avid hunter, golfer, enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions and the University of Michigan. Jack is survived by his 2 sons, Steve (Jackie) Yeck of Pentwater and Marc (Georgia) Yeck of Ludington; sister, Ruth Shaw of Portland, ME; brother-in-law, Jerry Lemire of Ludington; sister-in-law, Delores Rasmussen of Ludington; grandchildren, Connor, Taylor and Abe Yeck, Sonja (Jason) Battice, Stephanie (Nick Jamieson) Yeck, Kraig Yeck, Trisha (Les) Olds, Lynn (Johnny) Baumgardner, Deanna (Brenton) Goldthwait; and numerous great-grandchildren. Bill was born on August 31, 1938 in Weare Township, son of the late Arthur George and Grace Mabel (English) Eyestone. He attended Hart High School and graduated with the class of 1958. He retired from the United States Army. On June 17, 1960 Bill married Arline Agnes (Jensen) Eyestone in Ludington, Michigan. She preceded him in death on September 27, 2006. He was a devout member of the Community Church of Ludington. He enjoyed fishing, studying the bible and researching his family’s genealogy. Bill is survived by his daughter, Melanie (Albert) Staderman; son, Mark (Terri) Eyestone; brothers, Ray (Jan) Augenstein and Edmund (Bonnie) Eyestone; sister, June (Eddie) Shafer; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Duane was born on July 18, 1929 in Allegan and moved to Ludington as a child and attended Ludington High School. He married Ernestine Nelson who preceded him in death on May 19, 2005. He and his wife owned and operated Ludington Recreation and Memory Lanes until they later sold it. He also owned Just Wright Too Charter Boat and enjoyed taking people out on Lake Michigan for the catch of the day. Duane is survived by his sons, Wayne (Alice) Wright of Freesoil, Ernest (Xiaoli) Cameron of Ludington and William Wright; daughter, Cindy Holmes of Texas; brothers, Bruce (Sandy) Wright of Ludington and Denny (Connie) Wright of Ludington; sister, June Wright of Ludington; 15 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was born on August 25, 1937 in Bear Lake, Michigan the daughter of the late Robert & Grace (Ware) Eldridge. She was a 1955 graduate of Bear Lake High School. Joyce married Robert L. Gauthier on September 24, 1955 at the Pleasanton Methodist Church. Bob & Joyce enjoyed many years as the owners of the Pantry Restaurant in Ludington. She was an active volunteer in the Ludington community as a Cub Scout Leader, Girl Scout Leader, a volunteer library aid at Foster School, PTA leader, and March of Dimes Team Leader. Besides helping her husband run the Pantry Restaurant, Joyce was a ticket agent for North Star Bus Lines. After retiring to their home in Bear Lake, they took many trips in their camper and had traveled in 48 states and Canada. Besides camping and traveling Joyce enjoyed reading and sewing. She was an excellent seamstress and made several of her daughter’s wedding dresses. Each year she would sew every member of her family a new Christmas ornament. Joyce will leave a deep void in the lives of all who knew and loved her, especially her loving and devoted husband of 59 years; Robert Gauthier and their children; Deborah (David) Bedker of Ludington, Denise (Wayne) Formolo of Iron Mountain, Deanne Christenson of Houston, TX, Darlene (Jeff) Clause of Holland, IN, Dawn (John) Ordus of Spring Lake, Robert Gauthier of Bear Lake, and Richard Gauthier of Grand Rapids. Mark was born on April 13, 1957 in Albion Michigan son of Ruthella (Stevens) and the late Henry Brigham. Mark graduated from Mason County Central. He was employed in construction for many years until he became disabled. Mark’s hobbies included his love for the outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening, and riding motorcycles. Mark loved to laugh and make others laugh with his jokes and stories. Mark will be missed by those who knew and loved him. He is survived by his daughter Stephanie Brigham of Ludington; mother, Ruthella Brigham of Scottville; siblings, Keith (Sally) Brigham of Ludington, Ken (Sue)Brigham of Rosebush, John Brigham of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Stevie, Bentley, and Brooke of Ludington; nieces and nephews, Rob(Shana)Brigham of Waterford, Kyle Brigham of Ludington, Mike Brigham of Rosebush, Matthew Brigham of Mt. Pleasant, Alexandria Brigham of Detroit, Elizabeth Brigham of Mt. Pleasant and several great nieces and nephews. Mark was preceded in death by his father Henry Brigham, both his maternal and paternal grandparents and several aunts and uncles. She was born on March 6, 1997 in Grand Rapids, Michigan the daughter of Todd Lon & Jennifer Marie (March) Burgess. Abby was a student at Frankfort High School. Her hobbies included Rainbow Loom, all arts & crafts, riding horses, taking care of animals, working on the farm, fishing, & deer hunting. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Arcadia. Abby is survived by her parents; Todd & Jennifer Burges, her brother; Ethan, and sister; Allison of Arcadia, her maternal grandparents; Jim & Carol March of Arcadia, her paternal grandfather; Lonny Burgess of Traverse City, Aunts & Uncles; John & Ellen March, Dan & Lezlie March, Angela & Scott Duvall and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandma; Jean Burgess. A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday March 25, 2015 at 7:00 PM at Frankfort High School with Pastor Ted Beiderwieden officiating. Memorial Services will be held Thursday, March 26, 2015 at 12:00 Noon at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arcadia with Pastor Ted also officiating. Clik here to view.Hermine “Mitzi” Lichte, 79 years old, peacefully passed away early Monday morning, March 24, 2015 in her beloved home in Ludington, Michigan. Mitzi was born July 11, 1935 in Bayreuth, Germany to Peter and Katherine Seiler. She married her best friend, and life companion, Roger Lichte, April 11, 1958 in Nurnberg, Germany. This year would have marked 57 years of marriage. Her devoted husband survives. Mitzi had two brothers, Andreas Seiler, who preceded her in death, and Reiner Seiler, surviving. Mitzi is also survived by her three children, Katherine, Ronald, and Kenneth Lichte. In addition, she leaves behind two grandchildren, Jessica Morales-Jacobson, and Kyle Lichte. Being the wife of a career Army man, Mitzi lived and traveled around the world. She had a love for learning. She was an avid reader. She loved opera, theatre, animals, nature, and playing bridge. But, her true passion was cooking. Mitzi took great joy in entertaining, feeding, and visiting with family and friends. She was never happier than when she had a house full of people she could feed. When meeting new people they would notice Mitzi’s German accent. They would ask her where she is from. She always replied, “Michigan!” This always left the person scratching their head, and left a sly smile on Mitzi’s face. Her sense of humor was unique and special. A celebration of Mitzi’s life will be held at the Lichte farm when the weather is warmer, the grass is greener, and the flowers are blooming. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lakeshore Animal Friends of Ludington. Clik here to view.Angela Renee Crooks Schmidt, 65, of Manistee Michigan, died Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at the Manistee County Medical Care Facility. She was born on October 31, 1949 in Cheboygan, Michigan the daughter of the late Henry Crooks and Enid (Glee) McAdam. She passed peacefully, and was in the company of family during her final days. Angie is survived by her brother Henry Crooks, her sisters Glee (Myles) Elowsky and Charmaine (Thomas) Douglass, her son Darin(Sheri) Schmidt, her daughter Nicole(David) Madsen, and four grandchildren – Jacob Madsen, Bradley Madsen, Connor Madsen, and Pamela Schmidt. Angie is remembered as a loyal daughter, sister, and mother who was always ready to watch a sunset, partake in good food and wine, and do whatever she could to support her kids and grandkids. She fought a courageous battle with cancer for five years. Services will be held on Saturday, March 28, at 11 am at the Oak Grove Funeral Home & Cremation Center at 309 Parkdale Avenue in Manistee with Pastor Joe Hilyard Officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Grove Cemetery at 1040 Veterans Oak Grove Drive. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday morning from 10:00 AM until time of service. Clik here to view.Robert Walton Harvey Robert Walton Harvey, age 83 of Cadillac, passed away on Friday March 20, 2015 at home. He was born on June 6, 1931 in Grand Rapids, son of the late Edgar and Ruth (Simpson) Harvey. After high school, Robert attended Michigan State University, and graduated with his bachelor’s degree. Robert enlisted in the United States Army on October 7, 1952, serving during the Korean War until his honorable discharge August 27, 1954. Robert married Joan Ruth Pitsch on February 9, 1957 in Grand Rapids. Robert worked as the supervising bank examiner for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation from 1955 till 1987, for the Northern Michigan Region. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling with his grandchildren. He loved animals and especially his cat, Mini. Robert is survived by his wife Joan Harvey of Cadillac; children, David Harvey and Linda (Douglas) Kingsbury both of Cadillac; brother, Cilfford (Gunta) Harvey of Fairfield, NJ; grandchildren, Kaylyn Kingsbury of Cadillac and Kara Kingsbury of Williamsburg; and great-grandchildren, Karley and Brooklynn. Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held at a later date and time at Bowne Township Cemetery in Alto, MI.
