Thomas Joseph McLaughlin, Jr., age 85 of Bear Lake, passed away on Monday September 21, 2015 West Shore Medical Center in Manistee. He was born on April 2, 1930 in Bronx, NY, son of the late Thomas Joseph and Loretta (Keenan) McLaughlin, Sr. He attended Harrison High School in New York, graduating with the class of 1948. Thomas attended Alfred State University in New York where he ran track and cross country and graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science in 1952. Thomas enlisted in the United States Navy on May 20, 1947, serving until his honorable discharge on December 3, 1952. Thomas married Mary Jane Mrozek on October 27, 1956 in Cassopolis, MI. He worked at Packaging Corporation of America as a Boiler Operator for 39 years, retiring in August of 1995. Tom enjoyed golfing and riding his Harley with friends all over the U.S. Thomas loved to hunt, trap and had great respect for wildlife. He was very proud of his Scottish/Irish heritage. Thomas is survived by his daughters, Cathy Triece of Ludington, Loretta McLaughlin of Milford, CT, Teresa (Terry) Archey of Bear Lake and Anna (Dion) Christie of Rogue River, OR; sons, Thomas (Shu Mei) McLaughlin, III of Brethren and Tim McLaughlin of Muskegon; grandchildren, Nicole (Colin) Dawes of Grand Rapids, Robert (Kaylia) Miehlke of Royal Oak, Ronnie Miehlke of Detroit, Ryan Miehlke of Troy, Michael Miehlke of Warner Robbins, GA, Shawn McLaughlin of Bear Lake, Heather (Mike) Urbanus of Traverse City, Joe Christie of Portland, OR, Michael Christie of Klamath Falls, OR, Diane Christie off Medford, OR, Thomas McLaughlin IV of Bear Lake and Magdelyn McLaughlin of Brethren; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, John McLaughlin. The mass of resurrection with military honors will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday September 29, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Onekama with Father Ruben Munoz celebrant. The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday September 28, 2015 from 5:00 till 7:00PM at Oak Grove Funeral Home – Bear Lake Chapel and again on Tuesday morning at the church from 10:00AM until time of funeral mass. The evening vigil service will be held at 6:30PM during the Monday evening visitation. Memorial contributions in memory of Tom may be directed to Homeward Bound Animal Shelter in Manistee.
