Daniel Pinkerton

Daniel (Dan the Man) Pinkerton, 64 of Manistee Michigan died at home on June 6, 2015 surrounded by his family. Dan passed following a battle with cancer and other recurring illnesses as a result of his exposure to Agent Orange. Dan was born in Saint Joseph, Michigan to Wesley and Jane Pinkerton on November 20, 1950. He graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1968 and attended Lake Michigan College in Benton Harbor. Dan married Anne Marie Nicholas on June 26, 1970 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Saint Joseph Michigan. Dan was drafted and served with pride in the United States Army, being assigned to serve in Viet Nam from 1970 to 1971. He returned home to his wife and worked for CSXT Railroad (formerly Chessie System) for 25 years, retiring in 1998. Dan was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing with his family. In his retirement Dan and Anne brought Karaoke to Manistee as the long term entertainers at the Harbor Inn, Rosie’s Bar and many other businesses. Dan was known to please the crowd with his own renditions of popular Garth Brooks, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson songs. Dan is survived by his wife of nearly 45 years, Anne; son, Daniel (Tammy) Pinkerton and grandchildren Ian and Anna Pinkerton all of Manistee; daughter Kathryn Schulte and her fiancé David Krasinski and grandchildren Stephen, Cheyanne and Tyler Schulte of East Lake; and step-grandchildren, Troy and Madelyn Krasinski of Kaleva. Dan is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Diana and Paul Kircher of Crossville, TN; mother-in-law, Marie Nicholas; and sister-in-law, Jean Smith of Coloma, MI; brother-in-law, Peter Nicholas of Los Angeles, CA, as well as numerous relatives throughout the United States. Dan was preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Kathrine Pinkerton, and his parents, Wesley and Jane Pinkerton. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the D.A.V. Van Program C/O Jim Stringham, Veteran’s Counselor, 415 Third St. Manistee, MI. Cremation has taken place and friends are invited to join the family in a celebration of Dan’s life at Oak Grove Funeral Home in Parkdale, Michigan on Saturday, June 13, with visitation from 10 to 11 and a Celebration of Life service at 11 AM with military honors by Manistee United Veterans Council.
