Daniel Kuhn

Daniel J. Kuhn, 79, Ludington, Michigan, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Tendercare early in the morning of June 17, 2014. He was born on September 28, 1934 in Eaton Rapids, Michigan, to Albert Kuhn and Esther (Lamoreaux) Kuhn, who preceded him in death. Dan was raised in Richland, Michigan, and graduated High School in 1953. He married Mary Lou Cole in 1962 and they celebrated 52 years of marriage. Dan operated Kuhn’s Airport Shell at the corner of US-10 and 31 for 10 years beginning in 1966. In 1976 he opened Kuhn’s Eastgate Radiator and Ryder Truck Rental, which he operated until retiring in 2003. He took great pride and satisfaction in guiding his young employees and instilling in them a good work ethic, which would carry them through life. When he “retired” he found the job that gave him great satisfaction, as a groundskeeper mowing fairways and rough at Lakeside Links Golf Course. Dan was a past member of the Elks Lodge B.P.O. 736 and Ludington Jaycees. His hobbies and interests in his younger years included bowling, boating and intramural basketball. He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed college basketball, football and the PGA. Dan is survived by his wife Mary Lou and his children: Deborah Lane of Ludington, Dennis Jeffrey (Merry) Kuhn of Kalamazoo, Michael Kuhn (Angie Snyder) of Ludington, Kerrie (Scott) Carl of Holland, and Cindy (Kevin) Hackert of Ludington; grandchildren: Matt, Scott, and Jessica Lane, Sarah Kuhn, Braden Carl, Serena Kuhn, Lorynn, Maggie and Cole Hackert; his sister, Phyllis VanDyke of Parchment, MI; a brother in-law, Thomas Cole of Kalamazoo; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Carpenter. Cremation has taken place and A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday July 12, 2014 at 5:00 P.M. at Lakeside Links Clubhouse. Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of Michigan or the National Parkinson’s Foundation of West Michigan at 260 Jefferson Avenue S.E., Suite 210, Grand Rapids, MI.
