Helen May Gaskell, age 88 of Ludington, passed away on Monday February 17, 2014 at Spectrum Health – Ludington Hospital. She was born on May 26, 1925 in Detroit, daughter of the late William and Hazel (Rehfield) Schultz. Helen attended Chadsey High School in Detroit, graduating with the class of 1943. She married Marlin Richard “Dick” Gaskell on October 4, 1952. He preceded her in death on May 8, 1997. Helen was a loving homemaker, who enjoyed spending time with family and friends and loved to write hand written letters. She attended the Community Church in Ludington for many years and faith was an important part of her life. Helen is survived by her daughter, Sue (John) Vengen of Ludington; grandson, Michael Vengen of Grand Rapids; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gale and Dorothy Downes of Dearborn; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband “Dick”; 2 sisters; 3 brothers-in-law; 2 sisters-in-law; and a nephew. Funeral services for Helen will be held at 11:00AM on Thursday February 20, 2014 at Oak Grove Funeral Home with Reverend John Brown officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation from 10:00AM until time of service. Burial will take place at Acacia Park Cemetery in Beverly Hills, MI. Memorial contributions in memory of Helen may be directed to either the Community Church of Ludington or to Operation Santa Claus.
